The Pentagon may deploy 1,500 troops in Minnesota
Soldiers have been placed on standby in case protests against the government's deportation policy escalate. However, it is not yet clear whether they will actually be deployed. This was reported by the Washington Post, citing unnamed Defense Department officials.
Tensions in Minnesota, particularly in Minneapolis, have risen significantly after an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent shot and killed Renee Good on January 7. The incident sparked mass demonstrations against federal immigration authorities.
On Thursday, President Donald Trump threatened to use the Insurrection Act, which allows him to deploy the military on US soil if state authorities fail to prevent attacks on immigration officials. He stated on social media that if Minnesota officials "do not restore order," he will exercise this authority.
