A man with ties to Hamas was detained at Berlin airport

On Friday evening, German police detained a 36-year-old man suspected of having ties to the militant Hamas movement at Berlin Airport. The man had flown in from Beirut, Lebanon, and according to the German prosecutor's office, he was supposed to procure live ammunition for Hamas, allegedly up to 300 rounds.

Investigators believe that these supplies could have been intended for attacks against Israeli and Jewish targets in Germany or Europe. The detainee, originally from Lebanon, faces charges of membership in Hamas and participation in an international operational team.

On Saturday, a court in Karlsruhe is to decide on his detention. This is already the second crackdown on individuals with ties to Hamas in Germany – in October and November alone, four other suspects were arrested.
