According to Trump, the US can attack cartels "anywhere," even on land.
In an exclusive interview with the New York Post, US President Donald Trump suggested that the fight against drug cartels could lead to ground attacks anywhere—including Mexico, Venezuela, and Colombia.
He emphasized that the US knows the routes and bases of the cartels and is ready to act. According to him, up to 97 percent of drugs at sea have been eliminated, and he wants to apply the same approach on land.
His comments came shortly after the US operation in Venezuela, during which President Nicolás Maduro and his wife were detained.
Washington is also putting pressure on Mexico to allow US troops to enter the country. However, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has strongly rejected this, citing the protection of sovereignty. Mexico claims that it is taking action itself – it recently handed over another 37 detained cartel members to the US, bringing the total to 92.
