Cuba has no money or oil. According to Trump, it will want a deal.
US President Donald Trump said on Saturday that he believes the United States will reach an agreement with Cuba. His comment came a few days after he threatened to impose tariffs on anyone who supplies oil to Cuba.
He again called on Cuba to negotiate with the United States.
"It doesn't have to be a humanitarian crisis. (...) I think they'll probably come to us and want to make a deal... They're in a situation that's very bad for Cuba. They don't have money. They don't have oil. They were living off Venezuelan money and oil, but now they have none of that."
Last year, Caracas was Cuba's largest oil supplier, covering about a third of the island's daily needs. However, supplies from Venezuela fell sharply after it came under a US blockade, even before the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.
Mexico, Cuba's second-largest supplier after Venezuela, is also considering whether to continue its oil business with Cuba, according to Reuters, as it fears retaliatory measures from Washington.
