Survey: Tisza maintains lead over Viktor Orbán's Fidesz
In January, the Hungarian opposition party Tisza maintained a significant lead over Prime Minister Viktor Orbán's ruling Fidesz party. According to a survey by the Publicus Institute, Tisza is supported by 48 percent of decided voters, while Fidesz has 40 percent.
The result has not changed since December, but it confirms that Orbán is facing his strongest political challenge since 2010.
Tisza leader Peter Magyar promises to fight corruption, release frozen EU funds, and anchor Hungary more firmly in the European Union. The elections will take place on April 12.
The poll also showed growing public dissatisfaction, with nearly two-thirds of voters believing that the country is heading in the wrong direction.
Nevertheless, pro-government polls paint a different picture and give Orbán the lead, especially among older and rural voters.
