Railways near Bologna paralyzed by possible sabotage, trains delayed
Italian police are investigating possible sabotage after damaged electrical cables supplying railway lines were discovered near the northern Italian city of Bologna. As a result, high-speed, intercity, and regional connections are delayed by up to 90 minutes.
The state railway company Ferrovie dello Stato confirmed that the problem with the tracks was not caused by a technical malfunction. The incident disrupted one of the busiest railway junctions in the country, which is hosting the Winter Olympics, on the lines between Bologna and Milan and Bologna and Venice.
Milan is co-hosting the Winter Olympics with Cortina, which is accessible by train from Venice.
At the 2024 Summer Olympics, held in Paris, saboteurs attacked France's TGV high-speed rail network with a series of pre-dawn attacks across the country, causing transport chaos ahead of the opening ceremony.
