At the "Return to Nature" institute, he hoarded the poor, and they condemned him.
Jon Hallford, co-owner of a funeral home in Colorado, was sentenced to 40 years in prison for desecrating corpses. According to the BBC, the court handed down the sentence after it was proven that he had improperly stored nearly 200 bodies at the facility over a four-year period.
Before sentencing, Hallford apologized in court and admitted that he had had several opportunities to change the situation but had failed to do so. His ex-wife and co-owner of the facility, Carie Hallford, also pleaded guilty to the charges and is awaiting sentencing.
Family members of the victims described in court the psychological suffering and nightmares associated with the idea that the bodies of their loved ones were decomposing in unsanitary conditions. The bodies were found piled up in uncooled rooms at the Back to Nature funeral home in Penrose, including children and fetuses.
The investigation also confirmed that the funeral home had delivered fake ashes to the bereaved. The business came under scrutiny after reports of a strong odor, with authorities initially discovering 115 bodies on site.
The findings even led to stricter legislation in Colorado, where until then it had not been necessary to have a license to operate a funeral home.
