Kyiv: Peace with Russia will require a meeting between Zelensky and Putin
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha has stated that the final phase of peace talks with Russia will require a personal meeting between Presidents Volodymyr Zelensky and Vladimir Putin. According to him, only a few points of the 20-point peace plan remain open, but these are the most sensitive issues that can only be resolved by the leaders of the two countries.
Sybiha also emphasized that US President Donald Trump plays a decisive role in reaching an agreement, as Kiev believes he has the ability to end the conflict.
Ukraine is trying to accelerate peace efforts and take advantage of the current momentum of negotiations before the US shifts its attention to domestic issues.
Territorial issues remain particularly contentious, as Kyiv rejects Russian claims to further parts of Donbas and demands the return of the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant. Ukraine also insists on strong security guarantees, particularly from the United States.
