Japan's "Iron Lady" achieved a historic victory in the elections

Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi achieved a historic victory in the extraordinary winter elections, with her Liberal Democratic Party winning 316 seats in the lower house of parliament.

Together with its coalition partner, the Japan Innovation Party, it controls a two-thirds majority in the constitution, which will make it much easier for it to push through reforms.

Takaičiová, the first woman to lead Japan, has built her popularity on her straightforwardness, emphasis on security, and promises to cut taxes, especially on food. However, it is precisely these economic plans that have alarmed financial markets, which fear the impact on the already high public debt.

The election took place in extreme weather conditions, but the high turnout indicated strong support for the prime minister.

Her victory was welcomed by the US and Taiwan, while China reacted coolly, mainly due to Takačiová's tough stance on the Taiwan issue and strengthening defense.
