Zelensky calls for tougher sanctions on Iran
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with Iranian Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi, who is in exile, at the Munich Security Conference. He expressed his support for the Iranian people in their efforts to achieve a future without a repressive regime and offered his condolences to the victims of the Tehran government.
According to Zelensky, the talks focused on the current situation in Iran and the possibilities for international support. He stressed the need to tighten sanctions against the Iranian regime and other dictatorships.
Both sides condemned the cooperation between Russia and Iran, in particular the supply of Shahed drones, which Moscow is using in its war against Ukraine, and the granting of licenses for their production.
Zelensky described this partnership as a threat not only to Ukraine but also to the wider region. He thanked Pahlavi for his support for Ukraine's territorial integrity and stressed that protecting human lives remains Kiev's priority.
