China welcomes dialogue on Ukraine, warns against conflict with US
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said at the Munich Security Conference that Beijing welcomes efforts to end the war in Ukraine through dialogue. He also stressed that Europe should be part of the peace efforts, as the conflict directly affects it.
Wang Yi said that China is encouraged by signs of respect from the United States, but at the same time criticized circles in the US that, according to him, are trying to "attack and discredit" Beijing. According to him, the best scenario would be for Washington and Beijing to cooperate. The alternative, he said, is a hasty separation of economies and disruption of supply chains, which could have serious consequences for global trade.
The minister also warned that attempts to separate Taiwan from China could very likely push relations between China and the US toward conflict. According to him, Beijing wants cooperation, not confrontation, but is prepared to face various risks. At the same time, he rejected the narrative of "systemic rivalry" between the European Union and China.
