Trump banner raised on façade of US Justice Department

A large blue banner bearing the slogan “Make America Safe Again” and a portrait of President Donald Trump has been installed in front of the US Department of Justice headquarters in Washington.

The move marks another symbolic step following his return to the White House and appears to consolidate his influence over federal institutions. In recent months, Trump has pushed through personnel changes, renamed selected institutions and appointed loyal associates to senior positions.

Critics say this blurs the line between political authority and the independence of state bodies.

The Justice Department referred to its statement on “restoring America’s security” under Trump’s leadership. The department played a central role in cases brought against him after his first term in office.

However, after returning to office, the president pardoned those convicted over the attack on the Capitol, and his administration dismissed several officials involved in earlier investigations.
