Pope urges priests to think more and rely less on AI

According to EWTN News, after his public address the head of the Catholic Church, Pope Leo XIV, met privately with priests from the Diocese of Rome and answered four questions on ministry, prayer, study and brotherhood. He returned to his call to "rekindle the fire" of their priesthood.

When asked how to bring the Gospel closer to young people, he emphasised the importance of the priest’s personal witness, the need to broaden horizons in work with the young and the rediscovery of the value of Holy Communion.

In reply to the second question, he spoke of the need to know well the community in which priests live and work. Only then, he said, can they love it and face its challenges together. He also encouraged them to use their own judgement more and to rely less on artificial intelligence when preparing homilies. He stressed the importance of prayer as a true abiding with the Lord and the capacity to listen.

Addressing a question on envy among priests, he recalled the need to set an example of priestly fraternity. He also spoke of cultivating friendship and pursuing continual study. The final question concerned the loneliness of older priests. The Pope underlined gratitude for the gift of the priesthood, the joy of being together and the need for humility.
