Zelenskyy imposes sanctions on Russian navy and arms companies

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has enacted new sanctions packages approved by the National Security and Defense Council. The first of these targets 225 ship captains involved in the so-called Russian shadow fleet, which, according to available data, helps Moscow circumvent sanctions on oil exports.

These are citizens of 11 countries, including Russia, India, and the Philippines. Monitoring in the Black, Red, and Baltic Seas indicates that they were transporting oil in violation of EU and G7 sanctions.

Most of the tankers are already facing restrictions from the EU, the US, and the UK.

The second package of sanctions targets the Russian military-industrial complex. The sanctions apply to 46 Russians, two Iranians, and 44 Russian companies linked to the production of missiles, drones, and electronic systems. Kyiv also announced coordination with partners and further expansion of the sanctions list.
