Police shoots suspect entering Trump's residence with a canister and fuel
The US Secret Service announced on Sunday that its agents shot and killed a man in his 20s after he attempted to illegally enter the secure perimeter of President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida.
The man was carrying what appeared to be a shotgun and a fuel canister, intelligence services said. He was spotted at the north gate of the resort. The suspect's intentions are unclear.
The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Trump is currently in Washington.
The United States is facing an increase in political violence. In 2024, Trump faced two assassination attempts, including one at his golf course in West Palm Beach. Melissa Hortman, a Democratic state legislator in Minnesota, was shot and killed with her husband in June last year. A few months later, conservative activist Charlie Kirk was also shot at a public event.
