Afghan man smashed goods in a German store - customers intervened
At the Kaufland supermarket in Altenburg-Nord in Thuringia, Germany, a man dressed entirely in black vandalized the merchandise on offer. According to Bild, it started in the vegetable section, where he used both hands to knock crates and boxes onto the floor.
Employees asked him to stop. They warned him that they would call the police. The man responded with "yes, call the police" and continued to destroy the goods. The store was full of customers, some of whom avoided him, while others filmed the incident. No one was injured during his rampage.
Sparkling wines, broken cans, and jams were scattered on the floor. There was no security service present at the scene. Finally, two customers intervened and escorted the man out of the store. Shortly thereafter, the police arrived.
According to Police Commissioner Selina Rolle, the man was a 27-year-old Afghan in a state of mental distress, who was taken to hospital. The damage is estimated at approximately four figures. Kaufland confirmed that it had filed a criminal complaint and banned the man from entering the store. The company is investigating why security did not intervene on that day.
