Reform UK pledges to deport 600,000 illegal migrants
Zia Yusuf, shadow home secretary for Reform UK, has unveiled plans to tighten migration policy significantly. He argues that the damage caused by open-border policies is ‘deep’, but still reversible, according to the European Conservative website.
Party leader Nigel Farage has pledged to deport more than 600,000 illegal migrants during his first term in office – roughly 120,000 a year. Under the proposal, countries that refuse to take back their citizens would face visa sanctions.
Reform UK has also reiterated its intention to withdraw from the European Convention on Human Rights, which it says hampers effective deportations.
The measures are designed to set the party apart from both Labour and the Conservatives, whom it accuses of inaction.
