EU pledges €90bn loan and €920m winter energy package to Ukraine
The European Union will honour its commitment and provide Ukraine with a €90 billion loan ‘one way or another’, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said. She made the announcement in Kyiv on the fourth anniversary of Russia’s invasion.
Von der Leyen also said Brussels was preparing a new winter energy package worth €920 million for 2026 to 2027, aimed at helping Ukraine withstand further hardship linked to the war and attacks on infrastructure.
She also urged Kyiv to accelerate repairs to the Druzhba oil pipeline, which was damaged in the war.
According to von der Leyen, restoring energy routes is crucial not only for Ukraine but also for wider regional stability. The EU is thus reaffirming its financial and strategic support for a country that has faced Russian aggression for four years.
