US LNG exports reach record high as Europe takes bulk

The United States achieved a record in liquefied natural gas exports in 2025, according to the TASS agency.

Exports reached 156 billion cubic metres of LNG, with Europe as the principal destination. Europe accounted for around 68 per cent of total shipments, which, according to data from the US Department of Energy (DOE), represents a marked year-on-year increase.

Supplies to European countries rose by 63 per cent to 106.6 billion cubic metres.

By contrast, exports to Asia fell by 37 per cent to 27.3 billion cubic metres. Developments in Africa were also notable, with exports almost quadrupling to 12.6 billion cubic metres.

The largest importers of American LNG were the Netherlands, France, Egypt, Spain and the United Kingdom. Together, they accounted for 43 per cent of total US exports, underscoring a continued shift in energy flows, particularly towards Europe.
