Geneva hosts Ukraine reconstruction talks as territorial dispute persists
The United States and Ukraine are preparing to open negotiations in Geneva on the country’s post-war reconstruction, even though the war with Russia still shows no clear sign of ending.
The main focus is the so-called ‘prosperity package’, through which Kyiv aims to attract around $800 billion from public and private sources over the next decade.
Following a phone call with US President Donald Trump, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the planned March talks with Russia could pave the way for a meeting between the two leaders. At the same time, however, Moscow and Kyiv remain fundamentally divided, particularly over territorial issues.
Russia is demanding the cession of parts of the Donetsk region, which Ukraine rejects. Reconstruction is therefore becoming not only an economic matter but also a political issue within the broader framework of peace negotiations.
