Tram derails in central Milan, two dead and dozens injured

Two people died and approximately 40 were injured after a tram derailed in Milan.

A spokesperson for the local fire department said that the tram, one of the newest models in Milan, derailed on a key street in the city centre. It then crashed into a shop window. Thirteen ambulance crews are on the scene.

According to an eyewitness from Reuters, civil protection units set up a tent to help the injured.

Milan's transport company ATM responded in a statement that it was ‘deeply concerned’ about the accident. It expressed its condolences to all those affected, adding that it was working with the authorities to determine the cause of the accident.
