Zelenskyy: Abu Dhabi talks in doubt after attacks

The fate of the next round of peace talks between the US, Russia and Ukraine remains uncertain. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in Kyiv that the security situation in the Middle East and the scope of ‘real diplomatic possibilities’ would prove decisive.

Although he spoke this week of a possible meeting in Abu Dhabi in early March, events have since taken a new turn. The United Arab Emirates has found itself at the centre of tensions following US and Israeli air strikes on Iran, a development that may affect both the logistics and the political will to continue the dialogue.

The president also said the Ukrainian negotiating team would receive new instructions, but gave no further details. If security conditions fail to improve, the talks may be postponed or moved to another venue.
