Russia calls for urgent IAEA meeting on attacks on Iran

The Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will hold an extraordinary meeting on Monday morning to discuss the weekend attacks by the US and Israel on Iran. Russia requested the meeting in response to the tension following Saturday's strikes.

The extraordinary meeting will take place ahead of the already planned quarterly meeting, at which Iran's nuclear program has long been one of the main topics.

According to diplomatic sources, there is no indication so far that Iranian nuclear facilities were the direct target of the attacks. The IAEA itself provided only basic information about the date of the meeting in a brief statement.
