Iran claims to have hit the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln. The US denied this

Iran's Revolutionary Guards announced that they had attacked the US aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln in the Persian Gulf, according to The Guardian.

According to their statement, which was reported by local media, the ship was hit by four ballistic missiles. The attack is said to be in retaliation for joint US-Israeli strikes that killed Iran's supreme leader Ali Khamenei.

The Guards also warned that ´the land and sea will become a graveyard for terrorist aggressors`, hinting at a possible further escalation of the conflict between Iran and the United States. It is not yet clear what damage the attack caused or whether there were any casualties.

The US military command later denied the claim on the X network. "The Lincoln was not hit. The missiles fired did not even come close."

The USS Lincoln is one of two aircraft carriers deployed in the region in recent weeks and the only one relatively close to the Iranian coast.
