Pentagon: Iran did not plan to attack US first
The Trump administration admitted to Congress in closed briefings that it had no intelligence evidence that Iran was planning a pre-emptive strike against US forces.
According to sources, the information came shortly after the US and Israel launched extensive strikes on Iranian targets. These resulted in the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and the destruction of more than 1,000 facilities, including underground missile installations.
The Pentagon's statements therefore weaken one of President Donald Trump's main arguments, namely that he acted in response to an immediate threat from Tehran.
Democrats are talking about a ‘war of choice’ and questioning the abandonment of diplomatic negotiations. According to Reuters sources, there was no intelligence to support Trump's claim that Iran had acquired the capability to strike the United States with a ballistic missile.
