Three US jets shot down by friedly fire in Kuwait
Three US F-15E Strike Eagles were shot down over Kuwait early on Monday morning, due to an apparent friendly fire incident. According to the local Ministry of Defence, all six aircrew survived, were taken to hospital and are in stable condition. The operation was carried out in coordination with US forces.
Iranian state media, citing the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, reported that Iranian armed forces shot down an American aircraft, which subsequently crashed in Kuwait. A video verified by Reuters from the Al Jahra area shows a military aircraft falling from the sky and a person parachuting out.
However, a statement by the US military´s CENTCOM said that they were "mistakenly shot down by Kuwaiti air defences". Kuwait has acknowledged the incident and an investigation has been launched.
In another incident, smoke rose near the US embassy complex in Kuwait, where firefighters and ambulances were responding. US authorities did not respond to requests for comment.
The US Embassy warned citizens of the threat of missile and drone attacks and urged them to remain in shelters.
Kuwaiti air defences intercepted enemy drones, with no injuries reported. However, falling debris slightly injured two workers at the Mina Al-Ahmadi refinery. Explosions were also heard in Dubai and Doha.
