Zelenskyy: Middle East war could affect arms supplies to Ukraine
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned that prolonged fighting in the Middle East would likely affect arms supplies to Kyiv. American missiles and Patriot air defence systems are particularly crucial for Ukraine in defending against Russian missile and drone attacks, Politico reported.
European leaders are also concerned that a military conflict involving the US and Israel with Iran could weaken support for Ukraine in its war with Russia. If the conflict in the Middle East drags on, they believe Washington could shift its political attention and military resources to the region.
The United States could focus on replenishing its own arms stocks, leaving fewer weapons available for Europe and Ukraine. Analysts also note that opening another military front could weaken Washington’s ability to engage in peace talks between Kyiv and Moscow.
However, the Ukrainian leadership emphasises that negotiations to end the war with Russia are continuing and have not been officially halted by the conflict in the Middle East.
