Sánchez warns US: you cannot play Russian roulette with millions
Spain has warned against what Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez described as the ‘catastrophe’ the war in the Middle East is becoming. The remark came on Wednesday in a televised address after US President Donald Trump threatened to restrict trade with Madrid over its stance on the conflict.
‘This is how great catastrophes for humanity begin. You cannot play Russian roulette with millions of human lives,’ said the Spanish prime minister, warning that further escalation could have unpredictable consequences and affect not only the region but wider international stability.
Tensions between the two NATO allies have increased in recent days after Sánchez condemned the US and Israeli bombing of Iran as reckless and illegal. Spain subsequently banned US aircraft from using naval and air bases in the south of the country for the offensive against Tehran.
