Zelenskyy discusses deployment to the Middle East

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met representatives of the defence, intelligence and military services on Wednesday to discuss the consequences of the US-Israeli military operation against Iran and the possibilities for Ukraine’s involvement in stabilising the situation in the region.

According to Zelenskyy, the talks focused on the challenges facing Ukraine and its partners, as well as the country’s ability to help protect lives, prevent the spread of the conflict, and stabilise global markets.

‘The Iranian regime, which is trying to survive at all costs, poses a clear threat to all states in the region and to global stability. No country close to Iran can feel safe,’ he said, noting that Russia also deployed the Shahed drones used by Iran in the region in attacks on Ukrainian cities and infrastructure.

Zelenskyy also tasked the foreign minister, defence minister, intelligence services, military command and the secretary of the National Security and Defence Council with preparing options for assisting countries in the region. According to him, this could include sending Ukrainian experts and teams.

According to the president, Ukraine has the necessary capabilities and is already co-ordinating steps that could help partner countries in the region without weakening the country’s defence against the Russian invasion.
