Trump: Iran and Cuba seek talks

US President Donald Trump said on Thursday that his priority was to end the military conflict with Iran. He indicated that Tehran was already contacting Washington in an effort to reach an agreement.

‘They are calling and asking how we can make a deal. I told them they are a little late,’ Trump said during a meeting with the Inter Miami football team at the White House.

Trump also claimed that American and Israeli attacks had significantly weakened Iran’s military capabilities. According to the US military, more than 30 Iranian ships have been sunk since the start of the operation, including a vessel used for drone operations. Admiral Brad Cooper, head of US Central Command, said the number of Iranian ballistic missile attacks had fallen by about 90 per cent compared with the first day of the war.

The US president called on Iranian diplomats around the world to seek asylum and help create a ‘new and better Iran’. The Iranian mission to the UN did not respond.

Trump also indicated that after the conflict with Iran ends he may focus on negotiations with Cuba, which has expressed interest in talks. In an interview with Politico on Thursday, he predicted that after the Iranian regime is overthrown ‘Cuba will fall too’.

‘We cut off all the oil, all the money, or we cut off everything that was coming from Venezuela, which was the only source. And they want to make a deal,’ he told Politico.
