Putin and Trump discuss Iran war and prospects for a swift end
Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke with US President Donald Trump by phone on Monday. According to Kremlin foreign policy adviser Yuri Ushakov, Putin presented proposals during the conversation aimed at bringing the war with Iran to a swift end.
The leaders also discussed the war in Ukraine and the situation in Venezuela, particularly in connection with developments in the global oil market.
Trump has since indicated that, in his view, the conflict with Iran is nearing its end. In an interview with CBS News, he said the war is ‘almost completely over’ and that the United States is significantly ahead of its original timetable, which he had estimated at four to five weeks. According to Trump, Iran has lost its navy, communications and air force.
The US president also commented on Iran’s new supreme leader. He added that he had no message for him while hinting that he had someone in mind as a possible replacement. However, he did not provide any details.
