Bus fire in Switzerland kills six
Swiss police are investigating a fatal bus fire in the village of Kerzers in which six people died and others were injured. According to initial reports, the blaze may have been started deliberately. Witnesses said that one of the men on the bus poured petrol over himself and set himself on fire, which quickly caused devastating flames in the confined space, the newspaper Bild reported.
Police have not officially confirmed these claims and are investigating whether the suspected perpetrator was among the dead or the injured. It is also unclear whether the incident could be linked to terrorism, although there is no evidence to suggest this at this stage.
The fire broke out shortly before the bus reached its final stop. When rescuers arrived, the vehicle had already been destroyed by flames. Several ambulances and a rescue helicopter were involved in the operation.
Swiss authorities are investigating the case and said further information about the tragedy will be released after a new police briefing.
