Iran denies reports of injury to Supreme Leader Khamenei
According to Iranian officials, Iran’s supreme spiritual leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, is ‘safe and in good condition’, despite reports that he was injured during the ongoing war between Iran and Israel and the United States.
The son of Iranian President Yousuf Peshkeshian said he had sought confirmation about the reports of Khamenei’s injuries from people who had been in contact with him. ‘I heard reports that Mr Mojtaba Khamenei was injured. I asked several friends and they told me that, thank God, he is fine,’ he wrote on the Telegram platform.
However, an Israeli official told Reuters that intelligence assessments suggested Khamenei may have suffered minor injuries during joint Israeli-American strikes, which could explain his absence from public view.
The New York Times, citing Iranian officials, reported that he sustained injuries, including to his legs, but remained conscious and was hiding in a secure location.
Mojtaba Khamenei is the son and successor of Iran’s longtime supreme leader Ali Khamenei, who was reportedly killed in US-Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28.
