Hungary to keep gold and cash seized from Ukrainian bank

The Hungarian authorities have agreed to return two seized vehicles to the Ukrainian State Savings Bank. However, they will not return the money and gold that the vehicles were transporting. This was reported by sources familiar with the investigation to the European Truth portal.

Investigators from the Hungarian National Tax and Customs Administration have informed the Ukrainian side’s lawyers that they plan to hand over the seized vehicles. The transfer is scheduled for Thursday morning.

The condition of the vehicles is unknown. It is also unclear what damage may have been caused when the secure compartment in which the funds were being transported was forced open.

However, the gold and money seized by the authorities will remain in Hungary. The move is based on a new law that the Hungarian authorities rushed through this week to create a legal basis for confiscating assets obtained after the robbery of two Szabadság cash-in-transit vehicles.

A few days ago, Hungary seized approximately $82 million in cash and gold taken from two Ukrainian bank vehicles. Ukraine insists that the funds were part of a legitimate bank transfer from Austria.
