Kyiv wants to use data from the war to develop AI drones
Ukraine will make battlefield data available to its allies for the development of artificial intelligence software used in drones. This was announced by Ukraine’s defence minister, Mykhailo Fedorov. According to him, a platform has been created that will allow foreign partners and technology companies to train artificial intelligence models using Ukrainian battlefield data.
The system is designed to enable model training without disclosing sensitive information. The platform contains continuously updated data files, including a large number of photographs and video recordings from combat operations.
‘Ukraine now has a unique set of battlefield data that is unparalleled anywhere else in the world,’ Fedorov wrote on the social network Telegram, adding that it consists of millions of annotated images obtained during tens of thousands of combat drone flights.
According to Kyiv, foreign governments and technology companies have long sought access to this data, which can be used to train artificial intelligence models to recognise objects, movement and behaviour on the battlefield.
Ukraine expects that such cooperation will accelerate the development of autonomous systems that it could then use in the war against Russia. Fedorov also noted that Kyiv is ready to cooperate with its allies on joint data analysis, training artificial intelligence models and developing new technological solutions.
