Israel rejects Lebanon talks over Hezbollah

Israel rejected Lebanon’s offer of direct talks to end the conflict, which escalated again in early March following Hezbollah’s involvement in a regional war in support of Iran.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has indicated a willingness to begin negotiations and normalise relations with Israel.

However, according to Israeli officials, Lebanon does not have sufficient control over Hezbollah to guarantee security commitments.

Israel argues that negotiations are pointless as long as rocket attacks continue from Lebanese territory. Israel is also demanding that the Lebanese army dismantle Hezbollah’s rocket and drone bases and take control of its weapons.
