Trump warns Tehran over Hormuz attacks
Donald Trump claims that on Friday the United States destroyed all military targets at Iran’s main oil hub on the island of Kharg. He threatened to strike Iran’s oil infrastructure if Tehran continues the attacks that have halted most shipping traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to the White House chief, the oil infrastructure remained intact. ‘However, if Iran or anyone else does anything that disrupts the free and safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz, I will immediately reconsider this decision,’ Trump wrote.
This is a warning that could further unsettle markets, as the island serves as an export terminal for 90 per cent of Iran’s oil shipments. It lies approximately 26 kilometres from the Iranian coast and roughly 483 kilometres north-west of the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran’s armed forces announced on Saturday that any attack on Iran’s oil and energy infrastructure would result in attacks on the energy infrastructure of oil companies cooperating with the United States in the region.
