US in talks with Cuba, deal could come soon

US President Donald Trump hinted that the United States could soon reach an agreement with Cuba or take other steps if negotiations fail to produce results.

He made the remarks during a flight aboard Air Force One, adding that Washington would first focus on resolving issues with Iran. According to Trump, Havana is interested in a deal, though he also emphasised that the US is prepared to take other measures.

The comments come amid ongoing tensions between Washington and Havana, the result of years of sanctions, disputes over migration and security concerns. Regional partners and investors are therefore closely watching developments.

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel confirmed that negotiations between the two countries are already under way. According to him, the aim of the dialogue is to find a solution to long-standing disputes and gradually ease the confrontation.

The talks are taking place at a time when Cuba is facing one of the deepest economic crises in decades. A shortage of imported oil is causing widespread power outages and significantly limiting the functioning of public services.
