Penn receives ‘Oscar’ made of wreckage from Russian attack
American actor Sean Penn connected Hollywood with Ukraine in an unconventional way. Although he won an Oscar for a supporting role, he skipped the ceremony and travelled directly to Kyiv, the broadcaster France 24 reported.
There, Ukrainian Railways presented him with a symbolic statuette created from the metal of a rail car destroyed in a Russian attack. The figure, shaped like an Oscar, is intended to represent perseverance in times of war.
Penn is one of Kyiv’s most vocal foreign supporters and has previously made a documentary about President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, whom he describes as a friend.
In 2022, Penn also donated his Oscar to Zelenskyy.
