Dutch parliament moves to ban Muslim Brotherhood
The Dutch parliament has approved a proposal calling for a ban on the Muslim Brotherhood, significantly tightening the country’s stance towards Islamist organisations, the website European Conservative reports.
The proposal was put forward by politician Geert Wilders, who has long warned about the movement’s influence in Europe and its alleged efforts to infiltrate European societies over the long term.
The resolution also calls for action against organisations linked to the Brotherhood. The move forms part of a broader trend in Europe, where several countries have increased surveillance of such groups, although generally not as extensively as in the US.
The proposal passed after a similar vote narrowly failed last year. The decision has drawn support from several politicians and public figures who see it as a response to security concerns.
