British teacher sacked over migrant posts

PE teacher Sam Everett has been banned from teaching after sharing his views on politics and current affairs on the social network X, according to the Daily Mail. He worked for two years at Haughton Academy in Darlington, England.

Everett admitted the account was his but denied that the posts were racist or sexist. The case was reviewed by the Professional Conduct Committee, which concluded after a three-day hearing that he was neither racist nor sexist.

However, it found some of his posts offensive and pointed to a lack of tolerance. For example, he wrote: ‘I totally agree that if you don’t respect our laws, culture and way of life you should leave, no one is forcing you to stay. We don’t go into other people’s countries and tell them they are wrong in the way they do things.’

In another post, he wrote: ‘I’m tired of hearing the nonsense these idiots are spreading. They can live in societies where their values are accepted, not here. Leave. We won’t miss you.’

The committee considered publication of its findings a sufficient sanction. However, that recommendation was overturned in February 2026 and Everett was barred from teaching indefinitely. He may seek a review from March 2028. The authority said the committee had not sufficiently taken into account the seriousness of his actions and that the decision was intended to protect public confidence in the teaching profession.
