Iran strikes cut Qatar LNG exports by 17%

Iranian attacks on Qatar’s energy infrastructure have knocked out about 17 per cent of its liquefied natural gas export capacity, raising concerns over global markets.

QatarEnergy chief Saad al-Kaabi said two LNG ‘trains’ and a gas processing facility were damaged, with repairs expected to take three to five years. The outage amounts to roughly 12.8 million tonnes of LNG a year, with losses estimated at $20 billion annually.

The disruption threatens supplies to Europe and Asia, given Qatar’s role as a key exporter. The impact extends beyond LNG, with condensate, LPG and helium output also set to decline.

The attacks followed Israeli strikes on Iranian facilities, pointing to a broader escalation in regional tensions. Officials said any resumption of production would depend on the security situation.
