Slovenia asks EU to investigate possible election interference
Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob has called on the European Commission to investigate allegations of election interference involving Israeli private intelligence firm Black Cube, Politico reports.
According to reports, representatives of the firm may have carried out covert activities in Slovenia. However, it remains unclear who, if anyone, may have commissioned such work.
The allegations surfaced after leaked recordings linked political elites to corruption, adding to tensions ahead of the vote.
Golob warned that the affair could represent a hybrid threat to the wider EU and said the timing, shortly before the elections, increased the risk of disrupting democratic processes.
Slovenia is preparing for a closely contested election between Golob and opposition leader Janez Janša, who has denied any connection to the case.
