IEA urges remote work and less flying as energy prices surge

The International Energy Agency (IEA) has responded to the sharp rise in energy prices linked to the US–Israel conflict with Iran by issuing specific recommendations for governments and households.

It said individuals could help ease pressure on prices by working more from home, limiting air travel or reducing speeds on motorways.

The aim of the measures is to curb oil consumption and thus limit the impact of the energy crisis on the economy and inflation, which is reportedly rising worldwide. At the same time, the IEA noted that it has already made a record release of strategic oil stocks to stabilise the market.

Executive Director Fatih Birol stressed that the approach combines diplomatic efforts with practical demand-side measures. The steps are intended to help consumers cope with the current situation, driven by geopolitical tensions and disrupted energy supplies.
