Iran fires missiles at US–British base, none hit

Iran has fired two ballistic missiles at the US–British military base on Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean, according to the semi-official Mehr news agency. The Wall Street Journal reported earlier that Tehran had launched two medium-range missiles at the base, but that they did not hit their target.

The Mehr news agency described the strike as a significant step intended to demonstrate that the reach of Iran’s missiles extends beyond what its adversaries had previously assumed.

The base on Diego Garcia is one of the key strategic sites for Western military forces in the region.
