G7 condemns Iran’s attacks, vows to protect energy supplies

G7 foreign ministers said on Saturday they stood ready to take the necessary measures to support global energy supplies. They also stressed the importance of protecting sea lanes, including the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s key oil and gas transit routes.

In a joint statement, the ministers of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States, together with the European Union’s foreign policy representative, expressed support for partners in the region. They were responding to what they described as ‘unjustifiable attacks by Iran and its allies’.

The G7 also condemned in the strongest terms what it called attacks by the Iranian regime on civilians and civilian infrastructure, including energy facilities.
