Plane collides with fire truck during landing in New York

A serious incident occurred at New York’s LaGuardia Airport on Sunday evening when an Air Canada regional jet collided with a fire truck while landing at around 39 km/h.

According to preliminary data, 76 people were on board the CRJ-900. The pilot and co-pilot were killed in the collision, while two emergency service workers suffered fractures. NBC News reported that dozens of others were also injured.

The airport will remain closed until at least Monday afternoon following the accident, with several flights diverted or cancelled. Photographs from the scene show significant damage to the front of the aircraft.

The fire engine was reportedly responding to another incident when the collision occurred. The investigation is ongoing and authorities have not yet provided further details.
