Helium scarcity raises risk of production delays in Germany

Germany is reportedly facing a deepening shortage of helium and other industrial gases, which is beginning to affect hospitals and industry, Business Insider reports.

Suppliers are said to be introducing strict rationing measures and prioritising essential uses, such as MRI scans and other critical applications.

For many industrial companies, this means reduced availability, longer waiting times and a growing risk of production downtime.

The situation is further exacerbated by tighter controls on helium sales by Linde, which is said to be severely restricting supply. Hydrogen is to be sold at a premium of €3,000 per tonne, retroactive to 16 March 2026.
