Frederiksen leads in tight Denmark vote
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen is leading in parliamentary elections, according to early estimates, but her left-wing bloc is unlikely to secure a majority. Exit polls point to a close contest with the right, with the official results set to be decisive.
Frederiksen, in power since 2019, has recently benefited from a tough stance towards US President Donald Trump over Greenland.
However, she has also faced criticism at home, where voters increasingly cite the rising cost of living and a perceived neglect of domestic issues.
If confirmed, the result is likely to make government formation difficult. The prime minister may have to rely on support from centrist parties or smaller groupings from Greenland or the Faroe Islands. Moderates could therefore play a key role in shaping the next government.
