FIFA faces complaint over World Cup ticket prices

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is facing criticism even before kick-off. European fan and consumer organisations have lodged an official complaint with FIFA over ticket prices, which they describe as unreasonable.

They say the federation is abusing its monopoly on ticket sales and introducing practices such as dynamic pricing and non-transparent conditions. Particular attention has been drawn to the price of the final, which exceeds €3,400 – many times higher than at the last World Cup.

Criticism has also been directed at allegedly misleading advertising, with FIFA initially promoting cheaper tickets that were not available in sufficient numbers. The organisations are calling for intervention by the European Commission before the tournament in the US, Canada and Mexico.
